In Tunbridge Wells

No More Jazz in Tunbridge Wells

Written on 19 Aug 2012

If you’d been to any Jazz on the Pantiles recently, you would probably have felt pretty overwhelmed by the volume of people.  And you wouldn’t be the only one; specifically the security people and Police think it’s got a bit out of hand:

A series of open air jazz nights in Tunbridge Wells have been cancelled after crowds grew to “overwhelming” levels. Targetfollow, landlords of the Pantiles area, made the announcement during the most recent event on Thursday.

It’s a shame to see it go under these circumstances, but it’s hard to imagine it won’t be back in some form or another in the future - most likely with some form of ticketing or restrictions on numbers.

When I first saw the news on this, I had thought it was due to excessive complaints from the noise levels of the last event.  We can usually get a nice soft hum of jazz at home on a Thursday evening, but someone had been twiddling the volume knobs last week.  Perhaps they wanted to go out with a bang.
